A New Approach for Subjective Evaluation of the Luminous Environment of a Daylit Office with Side Windows
Lighting energy consumption should be reduced by maximizing daylighting without compromising work performance and occupants satisfaction towards the luminous environment. It is essential to identify the elements affecting the satisfaction level of the office luminous environment and encouraging occupants to consume less electric lighting. This paper describes the use of a multi-criteria analysis methodology, called Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP),for evaluating subjective preference towards the luminous environment of a sidelit office.Eleven decision factors were considered in this study.Subjects were asked to prioritize the components constituting a satisfactory luminous environment and promoting the minimization of electric lighting use in an office with windows. With the aid of the AHP approach,a hierarchical structure of the decision factors with their weights of influence can be developed. This is probably the first time of applying AHP as the evaluation method of the overall daylighting performance of office building window systems.
