A Method for Rapid Classification of VOCs and Building Materials for Quantification of Indoor Sinks

Different from the existing classification method of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and building materials,the proposed new method for rapid classification of VOCs is based on VOCs sorption strength on a Gas Chromatography (GC) column that is used as the reference material.A VOCs sorption strength is evaluated by retention time (RT) of the VOC on GC column.Meanwhile,a new rapid classification method of building materials is given by partition coefficient of a reference gas (decane) on different building materials from a view of VOC sorption on building materials.The paper points out the hypothetical relationship between partition coefficient of VOC and low RT range at different environmental conditions and building materials based on existing data.Further study on the new classification method is needed to define the classified boundary of RT.
