Experimental Analysis of Outdoor Thermal Comfort in a Residential Community in the Hot-humid Climate of South China
An experimental investigation of outdoor thermal environment was carried out in a residential community in Guangzhou,China.Data loggers and portable sensors were set up to measure local environmental parameters.Structured subjective questionnaires were developed and administrated to survey the residents thermal comfort sensations.Around 120 residents took part in the survey.Based on the results, air temperature plays the most important part in outdoor comfort of hot-humid area in China, while wind speed and shadows can also greatly improve the thermal environment. Both indicators PET and SET* were found to be sensitive to the requirements of outdoor comfort, while the traditional indicators PMV and TSENS were found to be unsuitable to assess the outdoor comfort in Guangzhou.
