Effects of Hypoxia on Human Mood State in Extreme Hot and Wet Environment

To explore the effects of hypoxia on human mood state in extreme hot and wet environment. The mood states of 12 healthy male volunteers were evaluated by self-assessment questionnaires,Profile of mood state (POMS) and state anxiety-inventory (S-AI),then random exposure to 2000m,2500m,and 3000m for 1 h in a hypobaric chamber. The data at baseline level were taken as the line control. The negative mood state factor points (T,C,D,F)and S-AI points increased gradually as the altitude level increased. While (V) points had a tendency to decrease,no significant difference was found in the points of (A) even under exposure to 3000m.At the early period of 2000m exposure the points of(T) and S-AI scores were higher than those of control level, then dropped to baseline level when exposure to this altitude for 1 h.Exposure to hypoxia at 2000 m for 1 h has adverse effect on mood state of healthy person and the negative effect was further aggravated with the increment of altitude level.
