The Experiment Research on Transport of Biological Aerosol in Saliva Droplets Within a Room

Indoor biological aerosol has an important effect on indoor air quality and it can be transmitted during patient coughing and sneezing. It is important to analyze the flow characteristics and distribution of indoor bio-aerosol.In this paper,we compare biological particle distribution in the testing full scale chambers using both experimental and numerical simulation methods.Serratia marcescens was used as tracer microorganism to simulate the droplet nuclei exhaled by patients, and the spatial distribution of its concentration was measured.Microorganisms were aerosolized into the chamber by a Collison nebulizer under different flow velocities,to simulate coughing and sneezing velocity.Collected bacteria were quantified using standard cultivating assays.Basing on the Lagrange equation, the Monte Carlo (McLaughlin and Nguyen 2007) modeling method will be coupled into this simulation program to describe the bio-particle transport mechanism indoor. Many influent factors such as indoor airflow velocity, the bio-aerosol generator velocity, particle diameter, and evaporation and death are considered synthetically in this paper. The numerical results show that the aerosol flow characteristics are in agreement with measure data.
