Decolorization and mechanism of Poly-aluminum(Ⅲ)-magnesium(Ⅱ)-sulfate for secondary effluent treatment of leachate

Poly-aluminum(III)-magnesium(II)-sulfate (PMA) was prepared, and performance of it for color removal from secondary effluent of landfill leachate was evaluated here. The decolorization mechanism was discussed as well. The results indicated that decolorization performance of poly-aluminum(III)-magnesium(II)-sulfate for secondary effluent treatment was better than those of traditional coagulants, with color removal rate above 90%. The flocculation mechanism of PMA was mainly charge neutralization and co-precipitation netting. Charge neutralization mainly happened when at low dose. However, flocculation behaviors were different along with different pH of wastewater when at high dose, namely, charge neutralization happened mainly at low pH and co-precipitation netting at high pH, both of them happened at relative neutral solution.
