CFD Numerical Simulation and Experimental Verification of Airflow Distribution in Venlo Greenhouse under Mechanical Ventilation

Three-dimensional airflow distribution in a Venlo greenhouse (12.8m * 20m) under forced ventilation was performed based on the commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD)Fluent. The aim of the study was to verify the feasibility of CFD models. The results showed that the pad-fan system strongly affected the inside airflow profiles and microclimate parameters. The relative error between the simulation and the experimental value was less than 25%, so the CFD model was valid. Thus, for an outdoor wind speed and air temperature of 1.2 m/s and 3 1℃ at the horizontal level 1.5m above the ground, respectively, the air velocity near the wet curtain varied from 0.7 to 1.2m/s, the air velocity inside the greenhouse varied from 0.4 to 0.8 m/s, and air velocity near the axial fans varied from 2.5 to 5m/s.
