Development of a Novel Sampler for SPM Applicable to Artifacts Environments

The impact of suspended particulate matters (SPM),originated from either deserts or industrial areas, upon public health, deterioration of artifacts and infrastructures has been social concern. In order to assess the above issue, the development of a portable sampler for individual SPM analysis was made by making use of highly perforated honeycomb film by which the extensive low flow resistance was attained. In this report, the features of the developed portable sampler and its on-site test results are presented for (1)SPM from residential and industrial areas,(2) toner particles emitted from ink-jet type printers in offices, and (3) bio-aerosols.It is essential to understand and control of the environments around artifacts for their preservation in terms of temperature relative humidity and SPM.The developed sampler has been practically utilized in the study of aerosols emitted from eomposting sites in UK since the spring of 2007.
