Balancing Indoor Environment Quality and Energy Use with a Human-oriented Evaluation Method of IndoorAir Distribution

The indoor environment quality and energy use are closely related to the indoor air distribution. In this paper,we attempt to balance the indoor environment quality and energy use with a human-oriented evaluation method of indoor air distribution. The revised thermal comfort and indoor air quality indices, which take the occupant distribution into account, are proposed to evaluate the effects of different indoor air distributions from the human-orientied aspect.Six cases are studied numerically to demonstrate the applications of the presented method. The results suggest that the revised indices can be more reasonable than traditional ones to reflect the degree of indoor environment to meet the demands of occupants, the optimization of indoor airflow design from the human-oriented aspect can strike a proper balance between indoor environment quality and energy use,and the effects of various ventilation styles depend largly on the distribution of occupants.
