Comparison of Optimal Hydraulic Sections for Five-kinds of Open Channels
An optimal hydraulic section is the section that conveys a given discharge with minimum cross sectional area.This paper solves hydraulic sections of U,catenary,parabolic,trapezoidal and rectangular shaped channels.The flow area,wetted perimeter and hydraulic radius are expressed as functions of nQ/√i for five-kinds of open channel section shapes.According to optimal order of sections,results indicate that U,catenary;parabolic,trapezoidal with side slope less than 4/3,rectangular and trapezoidal greater than 4/3 respectively.
