Developing a Meter to Measure Reference Evapotranspiration and Apply to Irrigation Forecast
The reference evapotranspiration meter could simulate the physical procedure of soil evaporation and plant transpiration, and could be employed to measure reference evapotranspiration directly. The apparatus can be operated and maintained easily with a low price. Therefore, the instrument is suited for use in China.Field tests of the instrument for winter wheat and summer maize were carried out in plain zone of central Shanxi Province in northwest China,Two other methods including Penman-Monteith formula and the evaporation pan were also applied to measure reference evapotranspiration to compare the precision of the instrument. The test data of the three methods were compared with lysimeter data. The result suggested that the precision to measure reference evapotranspiration by the instrument directly was a little lower than the Penman-Monteith formula but was greatly higher than the evaporation pan. Therefore, the accuracy of irrigation forecast could be satisfied by the instrument.
