Modelling of piezoelectric actuators for continuous ultrasonic welding of copper tubes and strips
In the modelling of the piezoelectric actuator using usual transfer matrix methods, some simplifications have been adopted. This leads to reduction of the model quality. In order to obtain better modelling results,a new mixed transfer matrix method is employed for modelling the piezoelectric ultrasonic actuator consisting of a bolt-clamped Langevin type PZT transducer (BLT) and a stepped booster for continuous welding of copper tubes and strips,in which the active piezoelectric ring is equivalent to a six-pole element description and the pre-stressed bolt is equivalent to a mechanical four-pole element description. The total transfer matrix relation is derived and the resonance frequencies of the actuator are calculated.Experimental results show that the mixed transfer matrix method has better modelling quality than the usual transfer matrix method.
