Controlled damping and mistuning using piezoceramics
Mechanical vibrations in technical applications are mostly unwanted.They increase wear,reduce precision,radiate noise and may lead to structural failure.Piezoceramics are suitable to control mechanical vibrations,because they can be used as sensors and actuators.In this paper,a feedback control using a collocated pair ofpiezoceramics is presented.It is shown that a velocity feedback alters the system damping,while a proportional feedback changes the eigenfrequencies.The effects are studied on a clamped beam and the results are verified by experiments.
