A Study on the Mechanism of Earthen Archaeological Sites Reinforced by Potassium Silicate
A large number of earthen archaeological sites in the arid areas of Northwest China were damaged seriously due to the severe deflation and weathering effects. So it is very necessary to study the reinforcement mechanism of earthen archaeological sites. It has been proved that the employment of Potassium silicate (PS) can effectively improve the strength and stability of earthen archaeological sites. In this study, the reinforcement mechanism between PS and earthen relies is investigated with XRD,SEM,TEM,XPS and TG.The results show that PS changes the separate flake structure of earthen relies into a more compact structure through filling in the pores of earthen relics and binding separate earthen relies particle together. The chemical reaction between PS and earthen relies surface increases the adhesion strength among earthen relics particles, which makes reinforcement more effectively.
