A traveling-wave ultrasonic motor using a bar transducer
An in-plane traveling-wave ultrasonic motor was proposed in this paper. The motor is composed of an annular stator with a bar transducer and two cone shaped rotors. The rotors are pressed in contact to the borders of the inner surface of the stator by means of an opportune pre-pressure system. The bar transducer has a sandwich-like configuration. Two set piezoelectric elements are bolded in it.One is used to excite the first longitudinal vibration, and the other is used to excite the second flexural vibration of the bar.The effective excitation of the traveling wave in the stator, with the longitudinal vibration and the bending vibration in the bar transducer, has been simulated with FEM (finite element method). The prototype has been made and investigated experimentally for its performance. Its maximum torque and rotation speed are 0.25Nm and 50r/min,respectively.
