A experiment method to investigate the mechanical characteristics of ultrasonic motor under high temperature condition

Ultrasonic motor (USM) is a new principle motor,which applies piezoelectric vibration and frictional force as the driving source.Piezoelectric motors offer several outstanding characteristics that may be very interesting for new scientific instruments in space applications.Therefore,how ultrasonic motors perform under high temperature condition is an important question.In this paper,a test method to investigate the characteristics of ultrasonic motor under high temperature condition is developed.This experiment is carried out on an environmental chamber type test system.This system consists of an environmental chamber,a torque-speed measurement apparatus and a connecting-axis.Torque and speed of ultrasonic motor can be get at 50℃,60℃,70℃,80℃,100℃ and 125℃.This method also applies to measurement the characteristics of ultrasonic motor under the low temperature condition.Using this method,a traveling wave type rotary ultrasonic motor is tested under high temperature condition.The results show that the speed of TRUM drops but the torque of TRUM rises under the high temperature (25℃-70℃) condition.At 70℃,the maximum torque of TRUM appears.At 80℃,the torque trends to decrease.At 150℃,the ultrasonic motor could not work.
