A Novel Image Compression Method Based on Fuzzy Theory and Neural Networks

A image compression algorithm using fuzzy competitive learning neural network is proposed in this paper.The proposed scheme is based on vector quantization.Then,competitive learning neural network and fuzzy control system are included in the scheme to train the codebook and encode the source image by using the membership function and control rules.Finally,to demonstrate the effectiveness of this scheme,experiment results are presented.According to the experimental results,comparing with conventional vector quantizafion(LBG),the proposed scheme could greatly improve the quality of codebook.
