Development of Pelton-type Expander Used in Refrigeration System
The throttling valve used in refrigeration system always causes energy loss.This paper investigates an energy recovery device in domestic refrigeration system in which a Pelton-type two-phase expander is applied to replace the throttling valve.A simplified two-arc straight blade impeller is developed based on thermodynamic and mathematic analysis.A prototype of an expander-generator unit is manufactured to observe the expander performance using R410a as refrigerant.Validation tests show the feasibility and stability of the Pelton-type expander under the whole range of test conditions.The Pelton-type expander is promising as taking its small size and simplicity into account.
