An Integrated Numerical-Experimental Project: The Variable Capacity Compressor Case
Experimental analysis for compressor optimization has been extensively used in the compressor industry.Even with the enhancement of the numerical model capabilities, the experimental analysis of the compressor thermodynamic behavior has been considered indispensable. However,in some kind of developments, like Variable Capacity Compressors (VCC),running at low speed, the thermodynamic work as well as the fluid flow losses in the suction and discharge systems are difficult to be measured with reliable results. In those cases, the necessity of a better correlation between numerical, experimental and statistical analysis must be taken into account. The purpose of this work is to present a methodology that has been applied at VCC platform, with a complete integration of numerical, experimental and statistical tools,in order to attain the project objectives.
