RESEARCH ON THE THERMAL RESPONSE OF RESTRAINED AXIALLY COMPRESSED STEEL COLUMN UNDER FIRE
Based upon the assumption that the varying temperature field on the steel component is described in ISO834 temperature curves, and considering the influence of material nonlinearity and geometric .nonlinearity on the thermal response of steel component, the finite element method is employed to compute the thermal response of steel components under the different temperature fields, including the model of failure, the stresses and displacements of the component. The computational results show that the thermal response of steel H-column without protection for fire-resistance under uniform temperature field is quite different from that under non-uniform temperature field, and the thermal response of uniform temperature field is rather smaller. It is suggested that the influence of the non-uniform temperature field upon the fire-resistant design of axially compressed steel column is taken into consideration, and the corresponding requirements and provisions of the present code for fire-resistant design is to be perfected.
