SEISMIC FRAGILITY ANALYSIS for RC FRAMES
A simplified seismic fragility analysis method is presented in this paper. It can be used to obtain the fragility curves of RC frames in which the contribution of the fundamental vibration mode is main to seismic demand. Only collapse prevention limit state is considered, which is defined as the top displacement of a structure reaches the ultimate displacement. The ultimate displacement is determined by Pushover analysis. Using the results of comprehensive history analyses of single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) systems, empirical expressions based on regression analysis are derived for the mean and standard deviation of ductility demands conditional on given natural period and strength reduction factor. This led to the construction of conditional probability distribution function of ductility demands. Then a simplified procedure is proposed for seismic fragility analysis. In the end of the paper, an example of a 7-story RC frame is analyzed by the proposed procedure and incremental dynamic analysis method respectively. The fragility curves from the two methods are closed, but the computation efforts of the proposed procedure are largely saved.
