STUDY ON THE ROLE OF POLYPROPYLENE FIBER IN PREVENTING EXPLOSIVE SPALLING OF HPC AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURES
Experiments were performed on several kinds of high performance concrete, that is high strength concrete and self compacting concrete with different polypropylene fibers dosage. During experiment, scanning electron microscopy and mercury instruction porosimetry were applied to investigate the microstructure. Gas permeability test was carried out in order to determine the effect of microstructural changes on the permeability. Based on the results, the reason for micro structure development with elevated temperature was analyzed. The melting of polypropylene fibers was captured and its influence on micro structure was also discussed. The relation between micro structure and gas permeability and the factors affecting gas permeability were also investigated. Meanwhile, specific series of experiments have been done to measure the stress-strain relationship to investigate the influence of PP fiber on mechanical properties of materials. The conclusions are helpful for the understanding of spalling of high performance concrete at elevated temperature, and will promote its further use.
