THREE-DIMENSIONAL NON-LINEAR VIBRATION ANALYSIS OF A CABLE

Three-dimensional(3-D) nonlinear vibration equations for analyzing the cables dynamical characteristics have been setup based on Hamilton principle and Galerkin method, and Newmark-β method is used for solution of the equations. Take cable J13 in Runyang Cable Bridge as an example, numerical analysis is utilized to investigate non-linear coupling vibration behaviors of free vibration of the cable out of plane. Results show that, when the cable produces the out-of-plane free vibration, the in-plane vibrations are induced and the out-of-plane vibration are strengthened, as the nonlinear coupling actions and excitation mutually between the modes and the response of the induced vibrations are larger in multi mode than in simple mode. Furthermore, the vibration frequencies of the cable are integer times of the induced vibration frequencies, and the cable Irvine parameter is an important factor to determine its nonlinear coupling action, and the cable vibration amplitude increases with Irvine parameter.
