PRACTICAL METHOD FOR SEISMIC DESIGN OF BASE ISOLATED SHEAR BUILDING BASED ON CHINESE CODES
The practical method for the earthquake-resistant design of shear building by using base isolation system is developed in this study. The rubber bearing is utilized to construct the base isolation system. The approaches for shape design and stiffness design of rubber isolator is first presented. The horizontal stiffness and equivalent damping ratio of isolation layer are deduced. The seismic design of isolated shear building are carried out utilizing base shear method based on current Chinese design codes. A three-story shear building is taken as the example to examine the feasibility and reliability of proposed approach. The observations demonstrate that the base isolation system can be utilized in the earthquake-resistant design of shear building because of its simple configuration as well as satisfactory energy-dissipating capacity.
