REMOTELY COLLABORATIVE PSEUDO-DYNAMIC TESTING OF A MULTISPAN BRIDGE

This paper presents a collaborative research project aimed at developing a robust standardized procedure for remotely collaborative pseudo-dynamic testing through Internet. Four modules named as ControlCtr, PhysicalTester, VirtualTester, and Observer are developed based on the use of standardized software interfaces. A five-pier bridge system was simulated by ControlCtr in which a reinforced concrete pier was tested physically in Hunan University and a Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) retrofitted pier was tested physically in Harbin Institute of Technology by PhysicaITester and the other three piers were respectively simulated numerically by virtual tester in University of Southern California, Tsinghua University and Hunan University. This is a collaborative research project between USA and three universities in China.
