LOAD-CARRYING CAPACITY OF THE HIGH-STRENGTH STEEL THIN-WALLED BOX-SECTION BEAM

A four-point flexural test was carded out to study the ultimate load-carrying capacity of the thin-walled box-section beams fabricated by high strength steel with the nominal yield stress of 745MPa to 800MPa. Then a finite element analysis with the shell element was employed to simulate the test results. The initial overall imperfection, the local imperfection of the component and the mechanical imperfection were incorporated into the analysis. The numerical values are generally in good agreement with the experimental values. Numbers of parameter analysis were carded out to investigate the ultimate load-carrying capacity of the high strength steel thin-walled box-section beam subjected pure bending moment. The values obtained indicate that the width-thickness ratio of the flange and the section side ratio are main factors that can affect its ultimate load-carrying capacity, and the slenderness ratio has little effect on the load-carrying capacity of the high strength steel thin-walled box-section beam.
