EXPERIMENTAL BEHAVIOR OF WRC-T CONCRETE FILLED STEEL TUBULAR COLUMNS UNDER AXIAL COMPRESSION

Based on the summary of various kinds of special shaped concrete-filled steel tube columns in the application of engineering, WRC-T (Welding Rectangular Composite T-shaped) concrete-filled steel tubular column is presented in this paper. 34 WRC-T concrete-filled steel tube columns were designed and manufactured that several influence factors include the confining index,slenderness ratio and flange-to-wide ratio of member were considered. Axial compression test was carried out and the load-deformation relationship curves were tested. Then the failure modes of specimens were investigated and the effect of each influence parameters which impacted the mechanic properties of this kind column was analyzed. Based on the conclusion of domestic and abroad codes, the formula for the axial compression bearing capacity of WRC-T concrete-filled steel tubular columns was deduced through the regression analysis of experimental data. The results show that the WRC-T concrete-filled steel tube column which is composed of two rectangular steel tube columns can just work together very well. Its mechanical properties are great and it is convenient for the construction. The calculated results by the formula coincide with the experimental results so well that the formula can be valuable to the engineering design.
