EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON THE MECHANICAL BEHAVIOR OF HIGH STRENGTH CONCRETE-FILLED SQUARE STEEL TUBE SHORT COLUMNS SUBJECTED TO ECCENTRIC PRESSURE

The eight high strength concrete-filled square steel tube (CFSST) short columns subjected eccentric compression were tested, the mechanical behavior of the short columns has been researched.The result has shown that eccentric ratio is the primary factor to influence the bearing capacity of high strength CFSST short columns, with the increase of eccentric ratio, the confinement effect provided by square steel tube to the core concrete is weakfish, the increase of bearing capacity reduces gradually, and the ultimate load drop down obviously. The influence of concrete strength on bearing capacity decreases gradually with the increase of eccentric ratio also. When the eccentric ratio is greater than some value, the decrease or increase of concrete strength has not effect on the bearing capacity of the member. By the experiment results, it has also been discovered that the mechanical model of high strength CFSST short columns subjected to eccentric pressure is correspond to ideal elastic-plastic body, and there is only elastic range and plastic range in the loading-deformation curve.
