EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH ON THE ASEISMATIC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE BRACKET SET AND THE MORTISE TENON JOINT OF ANCIENT CHINESE TIMBER BUILDINGS

The pseudo-static tests of the Mortise-tenon joint models and the bracket set models are carried out respectively, the test results show that, under horizontally reversal action, as being squeezed by each other, the Mortise and the tenon have been getting an overall plastic deformation,which leading to looser connecting between of them, as well as degeneration of rotational rigidity and evident flexible characteristic etc of Mortise-tenon joints and, consequently greatly reducing the possible deforming damage from the seismic effects. Similarly, the deflection rigidity of the bracket set is always descend no matter when the action is increasing or decreasing; on the basis of the Mortise-tenon joint and the bracket set hysteretic loops, the corresponding restoring moment-rotation model of the Mortise-tenon joints, as well as the bilinear force displacement relation of the bracket sets were established respectively. The hysteretic energy dissipating factor NL that can evaluate quantitively the capacity dissipated or reduced seismic energy of Mortise-tenon joint or the bracket set is introduced, furthermore, the corresponding theoretical calculated formula of NL is also presented, as well as the NLs corresponding Mortise-tenon joint models and the bracket set models were calculated respectively, the results show that, the NLs of bracket set models are about 1-2 order of magnitude as big as that of Mortise-tenon joint models; hence, it is confirmed theoretically that the pu zuo (or bracket set)structural floor possesses principal vibration reduction and shock isolation function.
