DAMAGE CONTROL DESIGN OF BRIDGE STRUCTURES IN JAPAN
Damage control devices and design methodology of bridge structures in Japan are reviewed in this paper. The basic concept on damage control and recent research progresses are introduced first, and then steel hysteretic damping devices such as BRBs and SPDs are studied, corresponding hysteretic models are proposed with different steel materials (SS400, LY250, LY100).The damage control design strategy is present and detailed performance check items are listed and discussed. At last, two practical applications of a steel truss bridge and an arch bridge in Japan are introduced.
