Geo-electromagnetiGeo-electromagnetic Data Demand for the Study of Effects of Geo-magnetic Storms on Power Grid
With the development of long-distance transmission lines in China, many accidents triggered by geomagnetic storms, resulting in affecting or attacking power grids, have been found in Jiangsu, Guangdong, etc.. Compared with the 500kVpower grid, the 1000kV ultra-high voltage transmission lines under construction, of which resistance is half of that of500kV super-high voltage transmission lines, are much longer in length and far larger in planning construction size. Moreover, single phase transformer bank structure is widely applied for ultra-high voltage power grids. So study oneffects of magnetic storms comes into an urgent research task. In this paper, structure characteristics of the 1000kVultra-high voltage power girds are analyzed and necessity of study on ultra-high voltage power grids is discussed. In theend, by analysis and comparison of measured GIC in current power grids, transmission line length and geo-electricalstructure are both significant factors affecting GIC level in Chinese power girds and some issues needed to investigateand solve are proposed.
