General purpose MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation model for dual-frequency induced polarization instrument

In order to evaluate the performance of several early developed dual-frequency induced polarization instrument (DFIPS),and support the improvement of DFIPS,a general purpose MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation mode with ability to simulate different DF1PS was developed.The model is composed of several subsystems as dual-frequency wave generator,IP effect subsystem,common passage subsystem,high frequency passage subsystem,low frequency passage subsystem,in-phase detection & integration subsystem,and Fs calculation & display subsystem.The parameter of above subsystems is changeable.Changing the parameter of each subsystem in the model,different DFIPS can be simulated.To verify above simulation model,an IP effect model with Fs (percent frequency effect) at frequency 4/13Hz & 4Hz equal to 27.88% is used at first.Simulation result of above IP model shows Fs as 27.86%,measuring error is compliant with DFIPS.Then,the transient process of DFIPS in measuring a reliable data is simulated.Simulation result shows that high frequency potential difference Vg arrives at steady state in short time,and the low frequency potential difference Vd arrive at steady state after 3 periods of dual frequency wave.Above result is compliant with DFIPSs measuring process.Above two simulation cases prove which,our simulation model do right job,it reflects the real status of DFIPS,can be used to study DFIPS.
