Application of cross-borehole electromagnetic tomography in karst detection along Yangtze River Levee
At the region of the carbonate rocks near the Wuhan section of Yangtze River Levee,as low-lying and the dynamic changes of Yangtze River water level which make underground water to erode limestone, generates more developed fissures, karst, fractures and so on,causing enormous hidden danger and risk to Yangtze River levee and affecting adjacent industry and agriculture production as well as the security of residents.Underground electromagnetic wave tomography (CT) technology between wells is a new technique which utilizes the medical CT principle successfully in the geoscience. This technology depends on the transmission discipline of the undergound lossy media and certain physical and mathematical relations to inverse distribution of physical parameters of perspective profile and finally expressess in the form of the image.Through this electromagnetic wave CT test of 90 sections,we found that 28 among which sections have anomaly. This detection provides accurate and reliable subsurface geological data for the safety assessmont of the surrounding around Yangtze River Levee.
