On-line damage detection on structural sudden degradation subjected to strong earthquake by using Hilbert-Huang transform
The on-line damage detection on structural sudden degradation subjected to strong earthquake by using Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) is actively carried out in this study.A new damage detection approach is developed for detecting the damage time instant,location,and severity of sudden change of structural stiffness.A five-story shear building is taken as an example to numerically assess the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed detection approach for the building at different damage levels.The results indicate that the damage time instant and location in the building due to a sudden loss of stiffness can be accurately identified using the proposed damage approach.
