Study on the mechanism of reservoir-induced seismicity

Based on Danjiangkou reservoir,the hydraulic-pressure stress and strain fields are numerically simulated in its initial and subsequent projects using ANSYS.The mechanism of reservoir-induced seismicity is studied by analyzing their property.And the reservoir-induced seismicity in sudsequent project is evaluated.The results show that the seismicity induced related to the principal tensile stress and strain due to water load,and that water makes the main faults in reservor area slide,but whether the slide will lead to seismicity has important correlation with geologic structure.In the subsequent project,the east of Danjiang reservoir will mainly be submerged,and it is possible to induced seismicity here.The earthquake-prone areas for seismicity include Huangzhuang,Fenghuang,Houpo,Jiuchong,Pengqiao,and Changfang.
