P-wave and S-wave shallow seismic reflection data using landstreamer technologies
Near-surface seismic reflection records and processed sections in P-wave,SH-wave and SV-wave modes have been acquired using landstreamer receiver arrays or planted geophones and a variety of impulsive and vibrating seismic sources.Data were acquired at a site in Eastern Canada where surface sediments are fine-grained marine deposits, and resulting profiles are compared and discussed.Seismic sections acquired with various sources such as minibuggy minivib from ⅣⅠ,shotgun, and sledge hammers show that in this environment,P-wave data acquired with an in-hole shot gun and planted geophones have significantly higher frequency content than data acquired using the mihivib/landstreamer system. However, data acquisition rates are increased by 4 to 10times using the minivib and landstreamer.SH-wave data acquired with a minivib source exhibit improved frequency and amplitude characteristics when compared to data acquired with an impulsive source.Outstanding high resolution sections have been obtained using a newly developed shallow SV-wave reflection method which reprocesses P-wave data recorded with vertical geophones and a vibrating source.
