Recovery of Precious Metals from Wastewater by Neutralization and Reduction
Generally speaking, wastewater coming from the metallurgical process for recovering precious metal contains precious metals such as gold (Au),platinum (Pt),palladium (Pd),Silver (Ag),etc.,which concentration is about 10 mg/L.In addition, there are other metals such as copper (Cu),iron (Fe),which concentration varies from several mg/L to more than 10,000 mg/L.It should be noted that the concentration of metals in wastewater is relatively high, considering the fact that these met-als of similar concentration can be found in ores. However, most of these valuable metals are not treated, due to the high processing cost and technical problems.Within this frame, the authors put forward a new process that includes neutralization/reduction,precipitation and fusion. The idea is to recover and recycle Au,Ag,and Pd metals as well as protecting the environment by saving the resources. It was found that this new process was able to recover more than 90% ofAu,Ag and Pd.
