STRENGTH AND DUCTILITY OF HIGH-STRENGTH CONCRETE COLUMNS CONFINED BY HIGH-STRENGTH LATERAL TIES
The objective of this paper is to study the strength and ductility behaviours of high-strength concrete (HSC) columns confined by high-strength spiral lateral tics, and determine experimentally and analytically thc magnitude of the strength enhancement of confined concrete. On the basis of a concentric loading test of 31 high-strength concrete columns confined by high-strength spiral lateral ties, this paper studied the failure mode, strength and ductility of the confined concrete columns, and evaluated the influences of the tie yield strength, tie spacing and tic configuration on the characteristics of strength and ductility. Additionally, this paper proposed a method to compute the stress in the transverse reinforcement at maximum concrete strength and an empirical equation to determine the strength enhancement, which showed good correlation with experimental results.
