Some comparison of finite difference numerical solutions in magnetotell uric modeling

We have made comparison of magnetotelluric (MT) finite difference numerical solutions, and try to determine the main factors that affect the accuracy of MT finite difference numerical modeling. We use normal grids and staggered grids to divide the study area, and compare the MT responses under 1D case and 2D case. We also compare the forward subroutines of some 2D inversion programs and 3D programs. Finally, we do a test of how the boundary condition affects the numerical solutions. It is confirmed that its important to choose a stable interpolation method to form the auxiliary field, the result in 1D case shows that the polynomial interpolation seems a little better than exponential interpolation. A good interpolation to form resistivity at grid nodes is also important to obtain stable solutions. We cant increase the accuracy of solution of 2D finite difference numerical modeling by increasing the accuracy of boundary values to a great extent.
