Solving the Flow Intercepting Spatial Interaction Problem with Uncertain Customer Demand
The current paper has a dual objective: to propose new models for the location of competitive service facilities under the scenario-based customer demand uncertainty and to develop an efficient solution technique. In this paper, we first propose a flexible model for the location competitive service facilities by introducing non-constant expenditure function into flow intercepting spatial interaction model (FISIM). This model allows us to synchronously capture two key effects embodied in the flow intercepting spatial interaction model: market expansion and market cannibalization. Secondly, we further propose a new model, with maximizing minimum objective function, to locate competitive service facilities under the scenario-based market demand uncertainty. An efficient heuristic method is proposed and illustrated with a numerical example.
