General Proposal for China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite Project

According to the 11th Five-Year Civil Space Plan and the National Long-Middle-term Plan for Earthquake Prevention and Disasters Mitigation(2006-2020), the proposal for developing earthquake-related satellite system and three-dimensional earthquake monitoring network is put forward in China. With a view to the requirements of space technology for earthquake monitor ing and forecasting, the applied research of remote sensing in disastrous earthquake,and the needs of space-to-earth observation technology for earthquake prevention and disaster mitigation, seismologist must establish and develop comprehensive satellite ground application system using technology including optical(also including IR), synthetic aperture radar, electromagnetic, and gravity measurements in order to obtain various information from solid earth. Being the first step, China will focus the attempt on demonstrating the first China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite project and launching the craft onboard in the near future. After Briefly Review of Seismo-electromagnetic effects in earthquake prediction, this pater draw the sketch idea about the first China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite and the general proposal for the sustainable and progressive three-dimensional seismo-electromagnetic monitoring network in the future.
