Current Practices Shaping the Science and Practice of Mineral Processing
The science and practice of mineral processing has been driven for many years by the same set of challenges that shape the mining industry-demand and supply, grades and their decline with time, mineralogy and the need to handle more complex ores, disposal and minimising of wastes and the availability of water, power, skilled labour and the like together with increasing expectations from the community, concerns on sustainability and safety and, as well, climate change forcing a more targeted approach on energy. In this paper, the author builds on previous reviews to the IMPC and suggests that while step changes are long overdue, the unprecedented demand mitigates against drastic changes. That said, the Mine of the Future is already requiring some different approaches.
