Determination of buffer stock levels using goal programming
Traditional inventory control models only consider inventory strategy decisions independently by product or product group, and do not consider outside restrictions placed upon the solutions of the models, so that the results indicated by them may not be feasible. In this study, goal programming (GP) model is applied in the decision process concerning buffer stock decision. This application can be viewed as an extension to the use of the traditional inventory models since simultaneous decisions can be made subject to constraints upon the process. In addition, the model is good for a dynamic, flexible review of the decisions that are made. For these reasons, this model has potential for meaningful applications in determination of buffer safety level simultaneously with environmental constraints.
