Reinforcing Knowledge Management through Promoting Knowledge Innovation: A Strategic Approach

Knowledge management is a critical factor to decide the performance of enterprises in todays knowledge-based economies. However, knowledge management is often regarded as synonymous with knowledge sharing, ignoring the essential part of knowledge innovation. Accordingly, knowledge innovation has not been paid reasonable attention to by enterprises. This paper analyzes the value and mechanism of knowledge sharing and innovation, and concludes that knowledge innovation is the fundamental goal as well as a desired result of knowledge management. A conceptual model is constructed with application of a strategic approach, and a promoting strategy for knowledge innovation is thereby suggested. It is asserted that the model and the strategy presented in this paper provide a strategic guideline for enterprises to promote knowledge management through managing knowledge innovation, and thereby assist them in flexibly adapting to the changeable environment and successfully achieving sustainable development.
