A New Classification Model of Knowledge-intensive Goods Based on Value Realization Process

Classification is the foundation of management and research of knowledge-intensive goods. Through the classification study, we can describe the structure and the characteristics of knowledge-intensive product system more clearly; thus, it can help scholars and mangers understand the features in aspects of the product attributes and value realization processes more profoundly and provide basis for the research and management of this kind of products. From the aspects of value realization process, the whole knowledge-intensive product field can be divided into four basic quadrants based on two independent classification dimensions--customer type and product shape. Furthermore, it also points out the value growth points, realization mechanisms and corresponding marketing strategy of each type of knowledge-intensive products by comparing the characters in customer characteristics, delivery characteristics and marketing strategy etc. of different kinds of products based on the classification model. The classification research of knowledge-intensive products can simplify the management and research process, improve the efficiency of researchers and managers, and provide an analysis framework for exploring the management strategy of knowledge-intensive products of different types.
