On Sustainable Development with Population Growth, Resource Scarcity and Horizontal Innovations
By establishing an endogenous growth model with horizontal innovations, population growth, and non-renewable resources, this paper aims to investigate the relationship between unskilled population growth, increasing natural resource depletion and degradation, endogenous technological progress and sustainable development. In this set-up, we first characterize the equilibrium paths, and we derive the solutions of the competitive equilibrium and a sufficient condition under which the sustainable balanced growth paths exist. Moreover, we analyse the properties of the steady-state equilibrium. Finally, we present some concluding remarks and discuss their policy implications.
