Investigation on torsion ductility degradation of high strength steel wire
A newly developed high strength steel wire (1770 MPa grade)suffered a vital problem that a large part of the galvanized wire (7 mm in diameter)presented very low torsional ductility that could not meet the product requirement. The present investigation was to identify the reason responsible for the low torsional ductility of the wire. The results indicate that the number of twists at torsion rupture of the wire drops when it experienced short times at 435℃ and the value upgrades after the wire being further heated at this temperature. In summary, torsional ductility degradation of the wire is attributed to the nonuniform microstructure distribution involving the consequence of strain aging caused by the nonuniform temperature distribution in the wire cross section.
