Thermal spray as a versatile and economic surface technology solution to increase life and performance of key elements in the iron and steel industry
In the steel and iron manufacturing industry,there are many parts that are exposed to high temperatures in combination with sliding and or molten metals.These are severe environments causing oxidation,erosion,abrasion and corrosion damage.Thermals spray has the ability to deposit a wide range and mix of materials creating effective coatings to increase the life and the performance of these parts thereby improving plant productivity and cost.The paper gives a review of the deposition processes and the coatings developed for specific applications.Most applications to-date relate to the protection of roils where in specific applications,such as sink rolls,thermal spray coatings are state-of-the-art and clearly the technology of choice.
