Experimental study on the oxidation of stainless steel in humid atomosphere
Oxidation tests of stainless steel 304,304L,430 and 410S are conducted using Gleeble 3 500 thermomechanical simulation system.A new assembly for generating humid air is designed and connected to the Gleeble thermo-mechanical simulation system for the first time to simulate the humid atmosphere around the strip surface in finishing mills during hot rolling of stainless steels.Water vapor contents that are relevant to hot rolling process are generated in the tests. The microstructures of three oxide layers can be found in all cases. The thickness of these oxide layers is assessed and the phase composition of oxide scale is identified. The oxidation behavior of the stainless steels in the humid environment during hot rolling is discussed.
