Influence of nitrogen content on the corrosion resistance of 304 stainless steel
By changing the nitrogen content from 20 mass% to 0.726 mass%,the influence of nitrogen content on the corrosion resistance of 304 stainless steels was investigated. The anodic polarization curves and the electrochemical impedance spectrum of nitrogen alloyed 304 stainless steels were measured in lmol/L H2 SO4 + 0.5 mol/L NaCl solution. The corrosion resistance increased with the increase of nitrogen content when the nitrogen content is less than 0.438% and then decreased when the nitrogen content increased further.A minimum value of corrosion rate appeared at the nitrogen content around 0.438%.The electrochemical impedance analysis showed a maximum interface resistance and a minimum interface capacitance value at the nitrogen content around 0.438%.
